Carrie Mae Polk, 91, of Clarendon passed away on Thursday, February 13, at her home in Clarendon.

Carrie was born on May 3, 1933 in Clarendon, Arkansas to Louis Houston and Anna Ellington-Houston.

Carrie received her education from the Clarendon Public Schools. She was a proud graduate of GW Carver High School Class of 1952, where she was a star basketball player.

Carrie was a lifelong member of the Union Missionary Baptist Church in Clarendon where she held many positions throughout her numerous years: church secretary, treasurer, choir, member of the finance committee and a Sunday school teacher.

Carrie was united in holy matrimony to the late Herman Polk.

In her earlier years "Carrie Mae" as she was affectionately known was employed with Sanyo Manufacturing in Forrest City for more than 25 years before retiring in 1995. She then went on to Work as a Mental Health Counselor with East Arkansas Counseling Services in Brinkley for more than 12 years before retiring in 2009.

Her husband Herman Polk, son Odis Wiley Jr, her brother Gus Hood Jr. and her grandson Dexter "Rudy" Houston and her parents: Louis Houston and Anna Houston all preceded Carrie Mae in death.

Survivors are two sons: Thomas K. Wiley of Detroit, MI and Dwight Houston of Clarendon, AR; two daughters Susie Kinney of Clarendon, AR and Susan Machelle Wiley of Detroit, MI; one sister Lillie Allen of St. Louis, MO and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Wake services will be held on Friday evening February 21 from 6 pm until 7 pm at CJ Williams Funeral Directors and Cremations, 124 S Main Avenue in Brinkley. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 22, at 11:00 AM at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 228 South 5th Street, in Clarendon with Reverend David Wilson serving as eulogist.
