Dorothy Mae Piggee-Johnson, 80 of Lexington, Mississippi, formerly of Holly Grove, passed away on Monday, February 20, at University Hospital Lexington.
Dorothy was born March 5, 1942 in Holly Grove, Arkansas to Isaiah Isby and Ruthie Mae Phillips-Isby. She was the widow of Jesse James Johnson.
As a child Dorothy accepted Christ as he Lord and Savior at an early age. She and her family regularly attended church. For more than 5 years, she was a member of Rose Hills Missionary Baptist Church in Lexington, where she was a dedicated member.
Dorothy received her early education from the Holly Grove Public School. She later married and Relocated to Chicago, Illinois where she lived and worked for many years.
While living in Chicago, Dorothy or "Doris" as she was lovingly known by all, was employed Sweetheart Manufacturing Company for more than 20 years. After relocating to Lexington, She worked a as a Beautician until she retired.
Her husband, Jesse J. Johnson; a son Kenneth Piggee; parents: Isaiah Isby and Ruthie Mae Isby; siblings: William T. Isby, Horace Isby, Isaiah Isby Jr., Joseph Isby, Billy Isby, Ruthie B. Peacock and Tyree Sain all preceded Dorothy in death.
Survivors are: her son: Larry Piggee-Johnson of Lexington, MS; three daughters: Ethel Piggee of Milwaukee, WI; Sherrell Piggee of Sheboygan, WI; and Sylvia Wilson, Chicago, Ill; nine grandchildren four sisters: Levette Wallace of Holly Grove, AR, Laverne Cogshell of Chicago, Ill, Geraldine Stewart of Little Rock, AR; and Mary Christine Nichols of Sherwood AR. and a host of other relatives and friends.
A public viewing will be held on Saturday March 4 from 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM at First Baptist Church, 158 Mimosa Street in Holly Grove. Interment will take place at New Hope Cemetery, Gable End Road in Holly Grove by C.J. Pallbearers are: Reggie Mayo, Gary Wallace, Kevin Stewart, Ronald Carr Sr., Ronald Carr Jr. and Anthony Cockrell.
