Dorthy Ann Simmons, 68, of Fort Smith, formerly of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, October 2 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Dorthy was born on July 4, 1956, in Newport, Arkansas to Leon Rowe and Ida B. Tucker-Rowe.
Dorthy received her education from the Newport Public School District. She received her GED.
Dorthy was a lifetime member of Fifth Street Church of Christ (formerly Calhoun Street Church of Christ) in Newport, where she had previous taught Bible study classes.
Dorthy united in holy matrimony to Nathaniel Simmons Jr. on July 7, 1973, they remained married for more than 32 years. Although the marriage ended they remained the best of friends, co-parents and grandparents.
In her earlier years "Dot" as she was affectionately known she was employed as a housekeeper for Ms. Violet Bowman of Bowman Manufacturing. She was a longtime caregiver for her sister Emma Rowe. She had also served as caregiver for numerous of family members throughout the years.
Her parents: Leon and Ida B. Rowe and her brother: John Smith all proceeded Dorthy in death.
Survivors are: two sons: Nathaniel (Anna) Simmons of Batesville, AR and Mark (Ashlie) Simmons of Sulfur Rock, AR; two daughters; Kimberly (Kim) Adams of Searcy, AR and Kendra Simmons of Fort Smith, AR; fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three brothers; Leon Rowe Jr. of Salina, KS; Herbert (Gisela) Smith of Columbus, OH; and Robert Smith of Texarkana, AR; five sisters; Emma Rowe, Diann Rowe, Jewel Rowe all of Fort Smith, AR; Martha (Columbus) Robinson of Newport, AR; and Shelia Smith of Texarkana, TX; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, October 12, at 3:00 PM at Fifth Street Church of Christ, 403 Fifth Street, in Newport with Bro. Harold Young serving as the Eulogist. Internment will take place at Mount Zion Cemetery in Shoffner by CJ Williams Funeral Directors and Cremations of Brinkley (870) 589-5036: email: williamsfuneraldirectors2022@gmail.com
Pallbearers are Jeffery Harris, Herbert Smith Sr., Willie Harris, Deon Love, Columbus Robinson jr. and Anthony Trice.
