Ester Mary Flakes

Ester Mary Flakes, 95, of Augusta passed away on Saturday, August 17 at her home in Augusta.

Ester was born on September 2, 1928, in Howell, Arkansas to Otis Cunningham. She was raised by her aunt in the Cotton Plant Community.

Ester attended school at Cotton Plant Academy.

Ester was a faithful member of Holy Ghost Academy Church of God in Christ for more than 30 years. During her time here she served on the usher board and the mother board-HGA and also the mothers board at STC. She had previously been a faithful member of Saints Temple Church of God in Christ in Forrest City for more than 10 years, where she also served on the Mother's Board.

Ester was united in holy matrimony to Sylvester Flakes Sr.

"Ester Mae" as she was affectionately known was employed as a farm laborer and served as a domestic homemaker in her earlier years.

Her husband Sylvester Flakes Sr., son Talmus Brown Jr. and her parents: Mr. and Mrs. Otis Cunningham proceeded her in death.

Survivors are her: two sons; Otis Glayson Cunningham and Sylvester Flakes both of Cotton Plant, AR: one daughter: Susan Johnson; eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 25 at 2:00 PM at Saints Temple Church of God in Christ, 1024 South Rosser Street in Forrest City with Pastor Michael Johnson serving as the eulogist.
