Jewel Dean Moore, 89, of Augusta, passed away on Saturday, August 26 at Unity Health -White County Medical Center in Searcy.
Jewel was born September 18, 1933, in Gregory, Arkansas to A.D. Green and Lenise Rhodes.
Jewel was a member of Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Gregory, where she was a faithful and diligent member for many years. In later years she was a part of the church's kitchen ministry and was very dutiful about church program participation (Welcomes and other church announcements).
Jewel received her formal education at Gregory community schools.
After finishing her formal education, Jewel went on to meet and marry Eddie B. Doby Sr. in 1950. To this union 4 children were born. He went on to precede her in death. She later met and married Elijah Sam Moore in July 1982.
In earlier years, Jewel worked as a cook for the Augusta Public Schools. After relocating to Chicago, Illinois, where she lived and worked for more than 40 years, she worked in the Hospitality Industry as a hotel manager at the Viceroy Hotel. She was also the proprietor and operator of Jewel's Diner 1 and Jewel's Diner 2 located in Chicago for more than 15 years.
Her husband Elijah S. Moore; a grandson Anthony Summers; her parents A.D. Green and Lenise Rhodes; three siblings: Zebbie D. Turner, Sylvester Green Sr. And Booker T. Green all preceded Jewel in death.
Survivors are: three sons: Eddie Doby Jr. Of Chicago, ill; Sylvester Walker of Phoenix, AZ and Lloyd (Beatrice) Doby of Little Rock, AR; five daughters: Betty Wells of Augusta, AR; Joyce Doby of Phoenix, AZ; Mary Harris of Chicago, Ill; Leona (Maurice) Wilson of Brownsville, TN; and Syretha Crawford of Cordova, TN: 20 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren; four brothers: Larry Rhodes and Bobby Rhodes of Augusta, AR; Johnny B. Green and Otis Lee (Mildred) Green Sr. both of Chicago, Ill; three sisters: Paulette (Cecil) Terrell and Hattie (William) Powell both of San Francisco, CA and Ruby Duckworth of Little Rock, AR; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, September 16 at 10 AM at Holy Ghost Academy Church of God in Christ, 927 South 4th Street in Augusta with Pastor Marcus Harris officiating. Interment will take place at Buckeye Cemetery in Gregory by C.J.
