John Sidney Nunn, 76, of Holly Grove passed away on Monday, November 4, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Stuttgart.
John was born on April 22, 1948, in Holly Grove, Arkansas to Charlie Cohn and Freddie Mae Nunn.
John accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and became a faithful lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Holly Grove under the leadership of Reverend J.H. Hinkle. During his life tenure there: he served on the Deacon board, member of the male choir, Church Clerk, former assistant Sunday School superintendent and Sunday School teacher. He also took care of the church lawn care and landscaping projects over many years.
John received his education from Holly Grove Public Schools. He was a proud graduate of Holly Grove Vocational High School Class of 1967. After graduating high school, he went on to attend Shorter College in North Little Rock, Arkansas, where he obtained his Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969.
John was united in holy matrimony to Ella L. Morrow Bones on September 13, 1969.
For more than 28 years, he worked for the United Parcel Service, where he started as a delivery driver and eventually ended his career as a District Manager. He retired in May 2006. He was also the former owner of JR's BBQ in Poplar Grove, Arkansas.
John was a member of the Bush Hunters Hunting Club, Holly Grove Home Coming Club, Hayes Cemetery Association, former school board member of the Holly Grove/Clarendon school district and a Mason. He also collected coins and sports caps
His son: Tedrick J. "Spike" Nunn; his parents: Charlie Cohn and Freddie Mae Davidson; and his two siblings: Torin Lewis and Dorothy Jackson, all proceeded John in death.
Survivors are his: wife of 55 years Ella L Nunn of Holly Grove, AR; one son Terrance (Dashia) Nunn of Conway, AR; three daughters; Tyra Nunn and Tera Nunn of both of Lancaster, TX; and Alisha (Kendall) Miller of Frederick, MD; eleven grandchildren: Teighan (Darwin) Mayo of Desoto, TX; Tanyia Batts of Cedar Hill, TX; Tyia Garrett and Makayla Goodwin both of Lancaster, ,TX; Tedryn (Sydney) Nunn of Cedar Hill, TX; Jordan Miller and Jalen Miller both of Frederick, MD; Taya Nunn of Holly Grove, AR and Taylon Nunn, Tianna Nunn and Taryn Nunn all of Conway, AR; six great grandchildren: Tyson Mayo, Tatum Mayo, Trent Mayo, and Trace Mayo all of Desoto, TX; Torryn Ross and Teddi Grace Nunn both of Cedar Hill, TX; three brothers; Ira (Shirlee) Nunn of Porter, OK; Tenolia (Carlene) Davidson of Farmington Hills, MI and Fred Davidson Sr. of Barton, AR; seven sisters: Mary Upchurch of St. Louis, MO; Virginia Ross of Garland, TX; Valerie (Terry) Branscomb of Memphis, TN; Denise (James) McCoy of Little Rock, AR; Felicia (Earnest) Washington of Little Rock, AR, Sandra (Demitri) Ivy of Arlington, TX and Venus (Danny) Elam of Chicago, IL and a host of other relatives or friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 15, from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 156 Mimosa Drive in Holly Grove. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 16, at 2:00 PM at Clarendon Holly Grove High School Arena, 314 North 7th Street in Clarendon with Reverend Ronald Laurant serving as eulogist.
