John Wesley Stewart, 80 of Holly Grove, formerly of Chicago, passed away on Thursday, December 21 at his home.
John was born June 17, 1943 in Holly Grove, Arkansas to Edgar Doll Stewart and Mildred Cartwright Stewart.
While growing up on a farm south of Holly Grove, John and his family attended St. John Missionary Baptist Church.
John received his formal education from the Holly Grove Public School System.
As a young man, John relocated to Chicago, Illinois to look for work and make a better life for himself. He found employment with Young's Spring and Wire Company in Bridgeview, Illinois, where he worked for more than 35 years before retiring in 2008 and relocating back to his home town of Holly Grove.
John was united in holy matrimony to Lavern Stewart. To this union two sons were born.
His parents, Edgar Doll Stewart and Mildred Cartwright Stewart; and two brothers: Robert Stewart and Louis Franklin Stewart all preceded John in death.
Survivors are: his wife Lavern Stewart of Chicago, Ill; two sons: Mark B. Stewart and Jason T. Stewart both of Chicago, Ill; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; four brothers: Ronald Stewart of Little Rock, AR; Benjamin Stewart and Lenyon Stewart both of Holly Grove, AR; and Edgar Stewart of Aurora, Ill; a sister Ethel Flowers of Chicago, Ill; a sister-in-law Irene Stewart of Clarendon, AR; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturay December 30 at 2 PM at Kingdon Builders Ministries, 400 North Pine Street in Holly Grove with Minister LaToya Woosley officiating.
