Leodis Townsend, 70 of Little Rock, formerly of Augusta, passed away on Sunday, August 25 at his home.
Leodis was born July 25, 1954 in Augusta, Arkansas to William Townsend Sr. and Bessie Gillespie-Townsend.
Leodis received his education from the Augusta Public Schools. He was a 1972 graduate of Laura Connor High School. After graduating high school, he went on to attend Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas on a Track Scholarship.
While growing up in Augusta, Leodis accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at New Holly Grove Baptist Church, under the leadership or Reverend Sidney Maddox, where he remained a lifelong member.
After, leaving Arkansas Tech, Leodis relocated to California where he lived for several years before returning to Arkansas in 1982.
Leodis was united in holy matrimony to Beverly Terrell on March 28, 1982.
Leodis was employed with Moses Tucker Realty in Little Rock for more than 25 years. He had previously been employed by the Muncie Corporation of Little Rock.
Leodis was a huge Arkansas Razorbacks fan. He would often attend games and was a connoisseur of Razorbacks merchandise. He was also a Dallas Cowboys fan.
His parents: William and Bessie Townsend; three brothers: Calvin Townsend, Marvin Townsend and Albert Townsend; four sisters: Erma Ward, Brenda Brown, Helen Heard and Zelma Ward all preceded Leodis in death.
Survivors are: his wife of 42 years Beverly Townsend of Little Rock, AR; two brothers: Gene Townsend and Jimmy Townsend both of Little Rock, AR and a sister Vergann Townsend-Murray of Augusta, AR; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon, September 7 at 2:00 PM at New Holly Grove Baptist Church, 501 Main Street in Augusta with Reverend C.L. Gilmore serving as eulogist. Interment will take place at New Quiet Cemetery-North in Augusta by C.J.
