Luvenina Scales

Luvenina Scales, 96 of Brinkley, passed away on Saturday afternoon, August 12 at her home.

Luvenina was born February 9, 1927 in McCrory, Arkansas to Harrison Edward Sr. and Emma Green-Edwards.

Luvenina was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Brinkley for nearly 50 years, where she was a faithful and dedicated member. She was formerly a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church also in Brinkley. She served as a member of the Usher Board at Bethlehem and Mount Olive.

Luvenina was employed with Southern Roofing Cotton Compress in Brinkley for many years. She had also worked for Farris Fashions in for several years before she retired.

Luvenina was united in holy matrimony to Willie C. Scales in 1944. To this union 11 children were born.

Her husband Willie C. Scales, two sons Orlee Scales and Napoleon Scales; two daughters: Agnes Wynne and Vera Mormon; nine siblings: Willie B. Johnson, John Herny Johnson, Minnie Lee Edwards, Robert Lee Edwards, Arvis Johnson, Olivia Byrd, Ace Jewel Edwards, Archie Edwards and Harrison Edwards Jr. all preceded Luvenina in death.

Survivors are: two sons: Hvelin (Linda) Scales of Kansas City, MO; Odell (Leester) Scales of Farmington, AR; five daughters: Anna Calamese of Brinkley, AR; Elverta Curry of Malvern, AR; Virginia Wynne of Coffeville, KS; Margaret Broadway of Garland, TX and Marie (Robert) Broadway of Fayetteville, AR; A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her brother Mark (Shirley) Edwards of Richmond, CA; her sister Elverta Autry of Napa, ID; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 25 from 5 until 7 PM at CJ Williams Funeral Directors and Cremations, 124 South Main in Brinkley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26 at 2:30 PM at the Brinkley Convention Center, 1501 Weatherby Drive in Brinkley With Reverend Emmanuel Cornelious officiating. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Brinkley by C.J.
