Mary Jean Neal, 78 of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of Little Rock, passed away, on Wednesday, December 13 at Northside Hospital in Sandy Springs, Georgia.

Mary was born May 14, 1945 in McCrory, Arkansas to Eugene Poindexter and Susie Randolph-Poindexter.

"Mae Jean" as Mary was lovingly known by all, received her formal education from the McCrory Public School System. In later years she went on to complete her GED, for which she was so proud.

Mary was united in holy matrimony to Earnest Neal in 1961. To the union three children were born.

While growing up in McCrory, Mary attended Long Grove Baptist Church and Eastern Chapel Methodist Church. After marrying and relocating to Little Rock, she joined and became a faithful member of Greater Paradise Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Jerry D. Black. During her time here, she served as a member of the Usher Board and as Treasurer. After relocating to Atlanta several years ago, she united with the Beulah Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia.

Mary was employed by the Timex Corporation in Little Rock for more than 7 years. She then went on to work for Muncie Products, also in Little Rock for more than 20 years before retiring. Afterwards, she went to work part time as a cashier for the Cash Saver's Grocery Store before relocating to Georgia.

Her husband Earnest, her son Earnest LaMorris Neal, her brothers: James Poindexter, Arlean Farmer Jr., Louis Farmer. Jene Farmer and Sylvester Farmer; a sister Earlean Brown all preceded Mary in death.

Survivors are: her son Elvin (Angela) Neal of Little Rock, AR; her daughter Tammy J. (Jim) Thomas of Atlanta, GA; grandsons: Tavares Neal and Bobby Duncan both of Atlanta, GA; granddaughters: Tiara (Andre) Duncan of Decatur, GA and Lori Neal of Little Rock, AR; a great grandson Corbyn Bell of Decatur, GA and two great granddaughters: Cayden Duncan and Adara Elam both of Decatur, GA; four brothers: Henry (Marilyn) Poindexter and Carl Chapple both of Augusta, AR; Rufus (Jimme Ann) Poindexter of Little Rock, AR; and A.C. (Carolyn) Farmer of Peoria, IL; five sisters: Merlean (James) Elliott of Little Rock, AR; Mary Ella (Alphonso) Brown of Patterson, AR; Almether Dinnwiddie, Allener Brown and Katie (Johnny) Green all of McCrory, AR; a brother in law Jeff Brown of Little Rock, AR and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 23 at 2 PM at Holy Ghost Academy Church of God in Christ, 927 South 4th Street in Augusta with Reverend Lamar Wright officiating. Interment will place at New Quiet Cemetery in Augusta by C.J.
