Melody Robin Johnson, 61 of Holly Grove, formerly of Flint, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, March 1 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.
Melody was born September 26, 1961 in Flint, Michigan to Curtis C. Jones Sr. and Elistene Sutton-Jones. She was one of six children born to this union.
While growing up in Flint, Melody and her family attended Vermont Christian Church in Flint, until she relocated to Arkansas.
Melody received her education from the Flint Public School. She attended Southwestern High School in Flint.
Melody or "Aunt Mel" as she was lovingly known to all, was united in holy matrimony to Waymon E. Johnson in November 1988 in Holly Grove.
Melody was a homemaker and a devoted wife mother and grandmother.
Melody enjoyed cooking, puzzles, collecting movies, home décor, listening to old school R&B music and Jazz. She had a great affinity for animals, especially dogs.
One of Melody's greatest passions was for sports, NFL football in particular. She was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders. She always went hard for her teams.
Her parents: Curtis C. Jones Sr. and Elistene Sutton-Jones Washington, her brother Dewayne Jones, nephew Curtis C. Jones III, niece Monica Jones, father and mother-in-law: Lonnie Lee Johnson Sr. and Celie Ann Broyles Johnson; a brother-in-law Lonnie C. Johnson Jr. and a sister-in-law Gloria Johnson all preceded Melody in death.
Survivors are her husband of 35 years Waymon E. Johnson of Holly Grove, AR; her daughter Echo Vanderbilt of Holly Grove, AR; her granddaughter Jayda Smith of Holly Grove, AR; her brother Curtis C. Jones II of Saginaw, MI; four sisters: Michelle Jones, Marie Jones and Mary Jones all of Flint, MI and Tiffany (Melvin) Lee of Jacksonville, FL; a bonus sister Rene (Lewis) Allen of Flint, MI and a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 7 from 5 PM until 7 PM at C.J. Williams Funeral Directors and Cremations, 124 South Main Avenue in Brinkley.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 13 family hour begins at 10 AM and services at 11 AM at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home Chapel, 906 W. Flint Park Drive in Flint, Michigan with interment to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery, 4413 Flushing Road in Flint. Local services are provided by C.J.
