Ruby E. Woods-Gant

Ruby E. Woods-Gant, 77, of Cotton Plant, passed away on March 5 at her home.

Ruby was born on August 2, 1946, in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to James and Bessie Thompson. She was raised by her grandmother whom she loved dearly, until age 16 when she relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where she lived and worked for more than 30 plus years before returning to Arkansas to live.

After returning to Arkansas, Ruby became a member of Ash Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cotton Plant. She was an active member of the choir.

Ruby received her formal education through the Cotton Plant School and Chicago Public School Systems.

Ruby had been employed for over three years at AR Care as a janitor before retiring. She had also worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant at Cla-Cliff Nursing Home and Rehab in Brinkley and as an Aid for Home Health. Ruby had also previously worked as a cook at Woodruff County Health Care Center as well as at the Des Arc Shirt Factory.

Ruby was untied in Holy matrimony to Kenneth Gant in 1998.

Her parents: James and Bessie Thompson, two children: Carolyn Woods and Nichole Woods; her siblings Eddie Thompson, James Thompson Jr. and Cora Mae Thompson all preceded Ruby in death.

Survivors are her husband: Kenneth Gant of Cotton Plant, AR: two sons: Julius (Eva) Woods Jr. of Biscoe, AR and Kenneth (Danielle) Gant II of Fayetteville, AR; two daughters; Judy Washington of Detroit, MI and Patrice Gant of Fayetteville, AR; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; four brothers: Williams (Jane) Thompson and Jimmy Thompson of Chicago, IL; Robert (Marlene) Jones Jr. and Gary (Mattie) Jones of Cotton Plant, AR; two sisters : Katheryn (Roy) Hughes of Chicago, IL; Bobbie Jones and Tracey Tucker and host of other relatives and friends.

A private family viewing will be held on Friday evening for immediate family members only.

A public graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 16 at 10:00 A.M. at Ebenezer Cemetery in Cotton Plant with Reverend Odell Haggans officiating by C.J.
