Ruthie L. Briggs, 73 of Newport, formerly of Cotton Plant, passed away on Tuesday, February 20 at Unity Health Care Center in Searcy.
Ruthie was born February 22, 1950 in McCrory, Arkansas to Willie Mae Harper and John Henry Moore Sr.
"Cookie" as Ruthie was affectionately known, was a longtime member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Brinkley.
She attended to Brinkley Public Schools and Marian Anderson High School.
In her earlier years, Cookie was employed in the healthcare field. She also worked as a cook and a domestic for families and individuals.
Her grandchildren Audrey Vaughn and Tacari Briggs, a son in law Derrick Williams; her parents: Willie Mae Harper and John Henry Moore Sr.; a brother John Arthur Moore and a sister Laura Johnson all preceded Ruthie in death.
Survivors are: two sons: Trevor (Wendie) Briggs of Batesville, AR; and Lance Briggs of Newport, AR; two daughters: Laura Vaughn of Cotton Plant, AR and Akeria Briggs of Newport, AR; fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; two brothers: Joe Moore and Roosevelt Moore both of New Jersey; a sister Dorothy Anthony of Aurora, IL; and a host nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held in Saturday, March 2 at 10 AM at First Missionary Baptist Church, 313 South New Orleans Avenue in Brinkley with Reverend Perry Byrd officiating. Pallbearers are: Xavier Roddy, Chris Young, Zachary O'Neal, Marquis Hampton, Joe Broadus and Trevor Briggs.
