Steve Theopolis (S.T.) Dampeer, 88 of Chicago, Illinois, formerly of Moro (Garrett Grove community) passed away on Friday June 30 at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois.
Steve or "ST" as he was affectionally know, was born on August 7,1934 in Moro, AR (Garret Grove) to Jeffery (Jeff) and Clara Miller-Dampeer. After the passing of his mother, his father remarried Statoria Steppes. They reared and nurtured Steve until adulthood. He was the only son of ten children.
Growing up in Moro (Garrett Grove community), Steve attended the Garrett Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of pastor Rev. James. He later recommitted his in early 2000 at First Holy Miracle Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chicago under the leadership of Emeritus Pastor LaVan Brayboy.
Steve attended Garret Grove Elementary and Junior High from 1st to 8th grade He also attended Morton High School in Marianna and Fargo Agricultural School in Fargo.
Steve found a love for baking and later made a long and successful career in the construction industry, including working for the Chicago Pavement Company in Chicago, where he helped put in the Chicago Dan Ryan Expressway. He enjoyed
His son Steve Dampeer Jr., a step-son, his parents: Jeffery Dampeer and Clara Miller-Dampeer; his step-mother Statoria Steppes-Dampeer; former wives: Jimmie Lee Wiley-Dampeer and Emily Rollins-Dampeer all preceded S.T. in death.
Survivors are two sons: Kenneth Dampeer and Dennis (Sandra) Dampeer; four daughters: Sylvia Dampeer-Taylor; Terri (William) Dampeer-Davis; Debbie Dampeer and LaShawnda (Hyrin) Owens; one stepson Larry Rollins: 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Shirley Dampeer-Worsham, Joyce Skillern, Reola Turner and Barbara Dampeer and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 18 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Hwy 238 South in Brinkley with Pastor LaVan Brayboy officiating.
