Thomas John Biggers, 77 of Augusta passed on Tuesday, February 11, at his home in Augusta.
Thomas was born April 6, 1947, in Augusta, Arkansas to John William Biggers and Anna Laura Brown-Biggers.
Thomas or "TJ" as he was lovingly known, was a faithful member of the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta, where he served on the church's Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Finance Committee and chairperson of the Annual Men's Day Program. He had formerly been a member of Ward Chapel Church also in Augusta.
Thomas received his early education from the Augusta Public School system. He was a proud member of the Carver High School graduating class of 1967. He later went on to attend trade school.
Thomas was drafted into the United States Army in 1967 during the Vietnam War Era. He served 2 years and received an honorable discharge in 1969. He would go on to serve in the Army Reserves from 1969-1992.
Thomas was united in holy matrimony to Dorcy Ann Tatum in December 1990.
"TJ" was employed by the ITW Paslode Company in Augusta for 3 years before retiring. He had been employed by IBF Printing Company in Little Rock for more than 30 years.
His wife Dorcy Ann Biggers; his son Dewayne Adams; his grandson Kwama Briscoe, his parents William and Annie Biggers; five siblings Jimmy Lee Poindexter, Willie Jean Poindexter-Boston, Laverne Biggers, James Henry Biggers, and Tommy Lee Dew, all proceeded Thomas in death.
Survivors are one son Roderick Tatum of Houston, TX; three daughters Daphne (Randy Sr.,) Spears of Augusta, AR and Evangela Tatum of Cabot, AR; and Michelle Brason of Little Rock, AR; special granddaughter and caregiver, Martisia Tatum of Augusta, AR; five grandchildren: Antwan Adams of Chicago, IL; Demarcus Spears of Dallas, TX; Randy Spears Jr. of Augusta, AR; Lorenzo Pryor III of Houston, TX, and Roneca Spears of Conway, AR; and one sister Eloise (Wilbur) Maddix of Sherwood, AR and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 10:00 AM at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 422 Mulberry Street in Augusta with Reverend Jessie Booker serving as eulogist. Pallbearers are Larry Murray, Joe Akins, Sylvester Walters, Doug Mellon, Chester Spears, Clay Williams and Kal Clark.
