Violet Mae McGaughey

Violet Mae McGaughey, 88, of Belleville, formerly of Brinkley, passed away on Friday, June 28 at her home.

Violet was born on April 22, 1936, in Moro, Arkansas to Johnny Hampton and Rosie Hampton.

While growing up in Moro, Violet's mother passed away when she was very young. She was reared by her aunt Mattie B. Hemons. She also received her education from the local Moro public schools.

Violet was a longtime member of the Church of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ-Apostolic Faith in under the leadership of Elder W.L. Harvey and Mother Lee Etta Harvey.

Throughout Violet's life she was a diligent wife, mother and homemaker. She went through great lengths to make sure that her family was well taken care of and attended church regularly.

Violet was united in holy matrimony to Aaron McGaughey April 9, 1973.

Her parents: Johnny Hampton and Rosie Hampton, brother Cecil "Roofy" Wofford, and her aunt that reared her Mattie Hemons all preceded Violet in death.

Survivors are her: husband of 51 years Aaron McGaughey of Brinkley, AR; two sons: Joe Hampton of Brinkley, AR and Jesse Davis of Kansas City, MO; seven daughters Deloise (Joseph) Palmer-Jenkins and Mildred Palmer both of Chicago, IL; Barbara (Lionel) Staten-Johnson of Manor, TX; Janet (Thomas Sr.) McGaughey-Baker of Brinkley, AR, Sherrie McGaughey of Belleville, AR; Pamela McGaughey of Helena, AR; and Teresa McGaughey of Forrest City, AR; seventeen grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; a goddaughter Gina Nixon of Olive Branch, MS and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 from 5pm-7pm at CJ Williams Funeral Directors and Cremations, 124 South Main Street in Brinkley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 10:00 AM at Brinkley Convention Center, 1501 Weatherby Drive with Deacon Timothy Harvey Sr. officiating.
