Willie Jean Haywood, 86, of Brinkley passed away on Thursday, March 27 at her home in Brinkley.
Willie was born on November 5, 1938 in Monroe, Arkansas to William Henry Baggett and Mary Chandler.
Willie received her education from the Smales School in Monroe. After she married and relocated to Chicago, she went to Beauty School in Chicago from 1960-1961.
Willie was a member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Moro, AR. She later became a member at the Pine Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Blackton, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Bible teacher and Mother of the church.
Willie was married to Oliver W. Cobbs Sr. from 1955-1981 ( deceased), she later married Charles Haywood in November 1983-2023.
Willie was a hair stylist for 60 years. She was the owner of Haywood's Beauty and Barber Shop in Brinkley where she worked there 38 years, she was the owner and operator of Cobbs Beauty Salon in Clarendon for seven years, and Handley's Beauty Shop in Brinkley for seven years.
Her husband Charles Haywood; her two children Oliver Cobbs Jr. and Billy Cobbs; her two grandchildren: Ashley Nicole Cobbs and Christopher Danyale Cobbs; seven siblings: Sol Harris, Thurston Baggett, Charleston Baggett, Larry Baggett, Mable Baggett, Patricia Lewis and Charles Lewis, all proceeded Willie Jean in death.
Survivors are her: eight sons Jerry (Brenda) Cobbs of Pine Bluff, AR; Bernard (Felecia) Cobbs of Jonesboro, AR; Gregory (Janice) Cobbs, McKinley Cobbs, Jonas Haywood and Charles Haywood III of all of Brinkley, AR; Charles A. Haywood Jr. and Sylvester Haywood both of Chicago, IL; one daughter Merita Haywood-Bradshaw of Chicago, IL; 23 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren; four brothers: McKinley (Jane) Baggett, Donald Baggett and Reginald (Priscilla) Baggett all of Chicago, IL; and Johnny (Mella) Baggett of East St. Louis, IL; two sisters: VeRoy Taylor and Deborah Baggett both of Chicago, IL and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 18 from 6:00PM-8:00 PM at New Genesis Church, 314 North New Orleans Avenue in Brinkley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 11:00 AM at the Mount of Olive Ministries, 1200 North Main Street Extended in Brinkley with Bishop Jerry Cobbs serving as Eulogist.
